The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service is a UK-based organization which aims to streamline the admissions process for British universities.
A lot of misformation floats around when it comes to applying to universities in the UK. Our experts are here to bust them for you!
❌An excellent personal statement can make up for poor grades.
✅If your grades do not meet the entry requirements, your personal statement probably won’t even be read. It is also very likely that most applicants with good grades will have good personal statements. The UK is more academically inclined than the US when it comes to college decisions.
❌You need to include an in-depth analysis of how each of your A level subjects links to the degree you are applying for in your personal statement.
✅This is probably going to be a waste of space and word count. In your personal statement, the admissions committee is looking for the skills you have acquired through the subjects that you have taken and how those skills could be useful for your choice of major. Will those skills provide an edge over the other applicants to excel in the course you want to do?
❌You need to highlight volunteer experience and extra curricular activities
✅Universities in the United Kingdom are more interested in a student’s subject related extracurricular activities. Do not put together a long list of activities that are not related to your major. If you are unsure about this, make sure that you speak to a tutor at an open day to ask if they have a preference.
❌Only A levels scores are accepted
✅Numerous credentials, including the AS and A2, EPQ, BTEC, Cambridge pre-U, Access courses, International Baccalaureate (IB), Scottish Highers, and Welsh Baccalaureate, are recognised by universities. Some courses require GSCE scores of C or higher. A levels are not the only qualifying credential.
