Starting your college journey is a huge milestone for any student, but at the same time it can be stressful and frightening, especially if you have made the decision to study abroad.
For students starting college this fall, here is a list of 5 things to keep in mind:
1. MAKE A BUDGET
Budgeting your finances is important because you start living by yourself. There are hidden expenses that you might not even consider. Plan your budget well so that you don’t end up being broke even before your semester ends.
2. GET TO KNOW YOUR TEACHERS
In college, networking is just as important as academics. Most of your professors will be delighted to get to know you, offer their knowledge, and assist you as you navigate the college experience. Your teaching assistants might be your seniors. Talking to them can help you make better decisions.
3. JOIN CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
Clubs and societies are a great way to meet new people. Colleges have clubs for everything. May it be your fav genre of book or movie or your favourite sport, there are clubs for everything. What could be better than getting to know people who share the same interests as you do. Club activities can also be a stress reliever in between your rigourous academic life.
4. DROP WHAT’S NOT WORKING FOR YOU
Despite going through the course description and reading the class manual, you might rethink your decision to select a particular course. You might not like the professor, or you may not like the content. Whatever the reason is, drop the course if you think it isn’t a perfect fit. Taking up another course instead is wiser than doing something you don’t want to do throughout the semester.
5. INTERNSHIPS ARE IMPERATIVE!
Internships are research opportunities add to your CV and resume. Vacations are the perfect time to take a break from studying and look for opportunities where you can apply your knowledge. While gaining experience, you also learn things that classes don’t.
