The IELTS listening test evaluates your ability to listen to and understand a range of spoken communication styles. It’s to ensure you can thrive in an academic environment where English is the primary language. Additionally, it will assess your capacity for taking in and reframing data from the spoken dialogue.
Note these six tips to score full on the IELTS listening section:
1. Familiarise yourself with English audios
By listening to audiobooks, podcasts, news feeds, and music, you may be able to recognize many native English accents. Start with subtitles and lyrics if you are struggling with it initially. Try taking academic notes in English. Listening to your teacher and noting it down is a great way to improve your listening skills.
2. Stay alert
The audio will be played only once. You have no control or choice over when the audio will begin playing. Therefore, it’s crucial to be vigilant and pay close attention to the audio.
3. Focus on Spelling and Grammar
Yes. Grammar and spellings are essential! Answers must be written down. Hence, making careless spelling or grammar mistakes will cost you. It’s crucial to consider these factors as well.
4. Build a strong vocabulary
Your comprehension of the main ideas will be impacted if you misunderstand even one word. To learn new words and phrases, read and listen to various sources. A strong vocabulary is usually beneficial. However, there might be some words that need to be clarified. Do not worry. Try to understand them using the context of the entire sentence. This will also help you identify social tones.
5. Practice transferring answers to improve the speed
Before taking the exam, practice transferring the response from the question paper to the answer sheet. This will help you move along more quickly while taking the actual test. You will not only improve speed but accuracy, too.
6. Take practice tests
It will be easier to recognize the correct response and the significant points if you are familiar with the types of questions in the reading section. Improve accuracy over several practices.
