Yale University is a private Ivy League research institution in New Haven, Connecticut. Established in 1701, it is the third-oldest higher education institution in the United States and one of the most renowned in the whole world.
With acceptance rates as low as 7%, Yale is one of the toughest universities to get into. Students must be extremely mindful when it comes to applying to highly competitive
Institutions. Here are the primary components you should take note of:
1. School report with transcript
Your guidance counsellor or a school representative should submit a school report along with an official transcript listing all of your secondary school courses, including those that you may have taken in junior college or at an earlier secondary school. Transcripts and recommendations must be sent online using the Coalition Application or Common App. Recommendations and transcripts for QuestBridge finalists are sent to Yale automatically with the QuestBridge application. Teachers and counsellors can also mail in their recommendations and transcripts, if necessary.
2. Letters of recommendation
Ask two of your main academic teachers to write your letters of recommendation. Although it is not necessary, it is desirable that recommendations come from teachers that you studied under in your junior or senior year of high school. The most enlightening letters are usually those from these professors because they have observed you closely and have a rapport with you.
3. Standardised test scores
Standardised tests make up a small part of a student’s application and are evaluated in the context of their whole dossier. There is no minimum score needed to get admitted, and no score can ensure admission.
4. Mid year grades
As soon as official grades from the first marking period of the current academic year are available, all candidates for first-year admission who have not yet completed secondary school must submit a mid-year report with those grades.
5. Application fees
The Coalition Application or Common Application websites should be used to submit the $80 application fee. Although the QuestBridge Application is free, only students who have been declared QuestBridge Finalists are eligible to use it to apply to Yale. The application cost can be waived for applicants who use the Common Application or Coalition Application. Do not be afraid to ask for a cost waiver if you believe that your family will be seriously impacted by the college application and financial assistance application fees. Unless expressly requested, you won’t be required to submit any supporting paperwork.
