In contrast to India and the UK, where great importance is given to academics by colleges, the US takes a more comprehensive approach. They contend that test results and GPAs alone do not accurately represent a student’s personality or what they can contribute to the college community.
A relatively minor portion of the overall application process is based on grades. Here are five requirements while applying to universities in the United States.
1. Letter of recommendation
A recommendation letter from a teacher can provide admissions authorities at colleges with a fuller picture of you as an applicant. The institution is already aware of your grades, but now is the chance for you to portray your academic sincerity and personality.
2. US common application
The common application through commonApp consists of basic introductory details such as name, date of birth, and your guardian’s name. You also write an essay. Tell the application committee your narrative through your essays. Include your obstacles, achievements, and failures. Make sure you write those essays on your own. The reader of your application reads many of these pieces every day and can identify if somebody has written your essay on your behalf.
3. College supplement essays
Some colleges also require you to answer specific essay prompts in addition to the common application essay. They want to know why you are interested in the particular university or a particular course. These prompts are different for all universities so writing supplementary essays can be slighly more stressful.
4. SAT scores
Either the SAT or ACT is accepted by every college in the US. Choose the option that works best for you and take the exam no more than two or three times. Time is limited, so focus on areas where you can succeed rather than aiming to earn the ideal grade.
5. Secondary school report card
Even though your grades don’t account for 100% of your acceptance to a specific university, they are important for a university application. The university requires you to send an official high school transcript.
