Here are the types of Oxbridge-specific exams you might need to take:
1. PAT
Students applying to study physics or physics and philosophy must take the Physics Aptitude Test (PAT), an entrance exam administered by Oxford. The test duration is 2 hours and it tests the ability of the student to perform rational math and physics.
2. MAT
The University of Oxford requires applicants for its degrees in mathematics and computer science to take the Mathematics Admission Test (MAT). The test lasts for two and a half hours. Calculations, formula sheets, and dictionaries are not allowed during the exam.
3. TSA
For candidates applying to undergraduate programs at the University of Oxford, there is a test called the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA). It is intended to determine if applicants possess the knowledge and abilities to pursue studies in subjects such as Experimental Psychology, Geography, Human Sciences, Philosophy and Linguistics, PPE, Psychology and Philosophy, and Linguistics. The test duration is 2 hours.
4. UCAT
Several universities in the UK employ the university technical aptitude exam. It is a two-hour MCQ exam. There are numerous locations worldwide where the UCAT is administered. A student’s medical theory is not tested, but verbal reasoning, decision-making, quantitative reasoning, abstract reasoning, and situational judgment skills are tested.
5. ELAT
If you want to enroll in English Language and Literature, Classics and English, or English and Modern Languages program, you must take the ELAT. The 90-minute exam assesses your abilities to closely study, compose, and effectively articulate a response to challenging literary material.
6. BMAT
A test to gauge aptitude for medical and health-related courses is called the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT). The exam lasts two hours and is computer-based. It tests mathematical and scientific skills.
7. HAT
All applicants to Oxford University for history-related degrees must take the History Aptitude Test (HAT). It aims to look at the aptitude and abilities needed to study history. There is one question in the exam that is based on a passage from a primary source. The test is to be answered in an hour.
