Have you completed high school? Your summer should now be split between finishing up unfinished business and getting ready for all the events that lie ahead.
Here are 5 things that you should do this summer before your first term at college begins:
1) Contact your soon-to-be roommate
It’s best to get to know your new roommate before you’re forced to sleep four feet apart in a single-frame bed. Make contact over the phone, establish a social media connection, get to know one another, and plan how to complete and furnish your dorm together. It might go well or not, it’s best to determine it beforehand in either case.
2) Make a list of things you need to buy for your dorm
Moving into a new place might require you to make a detailed list of all the things that you want in your dorm room. You are going to be living there so better have all your necessary things handy. On the other hand, residential spaces at your university are small and limited, so leave back stuff that you might not require. Take into account the weather before packing your clothing.
3) Register for classes
You might be enrolled automatically in some required freshman courses. In other situations, your school might invite you to a midsummer orientation where you can sign up for your remaining classes. Get in touch with your academic advisor as soon as possible. Ask for recommendations on courses that fit your specific interests and credit requirements. The procedures and deadlines for registering vary depending on the school. Discover the regulations at your school, then start the procedure.
4) Look up textbooks for your classes
Make a list of the required textbooks after determining your schedule and contacting your prospective lecturers. Pre-emptive action is a wise choice if you detest waiting in line and paying exorbitant amounts for publications you won’t read after this year. There are numerous places to buy used and discounted books. A few websites also offer an excellent market where you can buy, sell, and even rent texts, occasionally for incredibly reduced prices.
5) Visit a doctor
While you are still around, visit your family doctor. Get all of your immunizations up to date; most universities demand that you submit the most recent information about your vaccinations before or during your first year. Ask about the Gardasil vaccine, which guards against the epidemic-like sexually-transmitted Human Papilloma Virus spread on campus (HPV). Work with your doctor to have any regular or necessary prescriptions transferred before you depart to a pharmacy close to your campus, or have a new prescription prepared.
Get these 5 things done, and be ready for college!
