Purdue University is a great public university to consider for college because of its highly ranked engineering programme and the wide range of courses it offers in various academic disciplines. To be considered for this university, you’ll need more than just outstanding grades—you’ll also need to submit memorable essays as part of the Purdue supplement. Purdue requires two brief responses from freshmen candidates, as well as one optional longer Purdue supplemental essay. Depending on which application method you choose, you must also prepare an essay in response to one of the Common Application or Coalition Application prompts.

PURDUE UNIVERSITY ESSAY PROMPTS
Prompt 1: How will opportunities at Purdue support your interests, both in and out of the classroom? (100 words)
The main goal of this prompt is for you to identify certain Purdue programmes and explain why they will help you achieve your interests and ambitions. This essay is, at its core, a conventional “Why This College” essay.
First, think about your college interests and aspirations.These could include academic goals or cultural interests.Your interests and ambitions could be social or more personal. It’s worth noting that you don’t need to go into great depth about your major here; the second brief answer is for that (see below). Since it is so brief, the goal will be to come up with 2-3 reasons that distinguish Purdue from the other schools you’re applying to, while also linking to your academic and non-academic pursuits.
These two questions will be addressed in a well-written essay:
- What academic features does Purdue have that make it a good fit for you?
- What makes Purdue a good fit for you in terms of extracurriculars, student organisations and sports, professional contacts, competitions, and so on?
Prompt 2: Briefly discuss your reasons for pursuing the major you have selected. (100 words)
This is the classic question, “Why This Major?” The objective of this prompt is twofold:
- You must explain why you choose your major and show that you understand what it entails moving ahead
- You must also assist the admissions officer in learning more about who you are and what you value.
While it’s excellent to talk about how you became interested in your field, you should attempt to focus your response on your academic and professional objectives. You can write about what you want to do with your major when you graduate and about what role will Purdue play in this. Admissions team would not only like to know not only why you choose your major, but also how Purdue will help you reach your goals by studying it. You don’t have a lot of room here ( just 100 words! ), so you’ll have to be succinct but powerful, just as in the other Purdue supplemental essays.
(Optional) Prompt 3: Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (250 words)
Another common feature of college applications is the extracurricular essay. They do, however, grant you some leeway with the word count this time. Your goal should be to broaden the scope of one extracurricular activity beyond what is indicated in your activities section of your resume. If you can portray personal improvement, you’ll get bonus points. You don’t have to choose your most remarkable activity or the one that occupies the most of your time when it comes to extracurriculars. Instead, concentrate on an activity that is important to you or that reveals a lot about you.
The most crucial aspect of your response, regardless of what you write about, is how you frame it! Admissions officers are more interested in learning about you as a person than they are in learning about your activities. Don’t waste time describing what you’re doing, even if it’s something unusual. Rather, concentrate on the precise tasks you completed as part of your extracurricular activities or why the experience was so remarkable.
TIPS FOR WRITING A GREAT PURDUE SUPPLEMENTAL ESSAY
To sum up, here are four suggestions for writing a strong supplemental Purdue University admission essay.
- Be succinct and thoughtful in what you write:
With one 250-word essay and two 100-word essays, you only have to write three Purdue supplemental essays. Our final piece of advice is to devote a significant amount of time to rewriting and proofreading each Purdue essay you submit. Put the essay away for a few days after you’ve finished a draft version. Take it out again and examine it with a fresh pair of eyes. Make a note of any places that are irrelevant, wrong, or unclear, and make any necessary changes.
