Are you performing well in the reading and listening sections of the IELTS but need help managing your desired grade for the writing section? Do not worry. We have got you covered.
There are tons of tips for the IELTS Writing Section, but we have compiled a list of the top 5 things you should note to achieve the highest band score!
Read the question carefully
Determine the type of question by carefully reading it. Is a response or an opinion being asked? Should you support the argument or critique it? If you can identify this, you will go a long way in your essay writing. Thorough reading also helps prevent silly errors.
Plan your essay and make a mindmap
After reading the prompt, your mind is probably bubbling with ideas. Write down the key concepts and examples that come to mind for roughly five minutes. These thoughts and aspects are essential to your writing composition—clarity when writing the essay results from planning it carefully.
Have a personal touch
While drafting the essay, it might be helpful to include relevant examples and your viewpoints (if the prompt permits). Write the essay as though you are sending it to a buddy, and be as creative as you like with your word choice. The key here is to understand what the question asks of you and frame your response appropriately.
Use formal language
Avoid using text shortcuts and terminology from social media in your writing. Avoid using pronouns like “I,” “you,” and “your” when writing in a professional tone and use complete, grammatically correct sentences.
Avoid repetition
The lexical resource is one of the four factors the IELTS uses to score your essay. The other three are task achievement, coherence, and grammatical range & correctness. Lexical resources address proper punctuation, spelling precision, word construction, and vocabulary variety. Avoid boring, repetitive word usage since it gives the impression that you need to learn the language better.
