The hustle mentality only works to a certain extent. Overachievers often push themselves up until they are exhausted, overworked, stressed, or burnt out. Everyone needs a break, and here is how you could take one when you feel stressed or tired:
1. Allow yourself to get some extra sleep
Sleep is essential in regulating your energy levels. It has the power to increase the efficiency and the quality of your work. Sleeping also helps you relax and recharge for the day ahead. Sleep early or sleep for an extra hour or two in the morning.
2. Indulge in a guilty pleasure
Happiness and satisfaction are the other two elements that keep you going. We all love our guilty pleasures. Whether binge-watching your favourite Netflix series or eating your favourite junk food, take time to do what makes you happy.
3. Work on mental and physical well being
Are you tired of the fast-paced life and the people around you? Take some time off. Go on a weekend vacation, explore your nearby garden, take a walk, and move your body for 15 minutes daily. Find the thing that works for you in the long run, and remember to incorporate meditation and mindfulness.
4. Journal your thoughts
Journaling is a good practice when you experience stress. It is more than just a venting mechanism. This stops the stressors from clouding and accumulating in your mind. Write about what makes you feel happy, sad, or stressed. Write three things you are grateful about to remind yourself of the good things in your life.
5. Close the multiple tabs, Clear the clutter
You might be stressed due to the overwhelming feeling of seeing multiple things to be done. Close the various tabs on your computer. Do one task after another. Clear it all off and start with a clean slate
6. Decide for a day that nothing is urgent
Prioritise your mental health. When you take your time off from work, forget what needs to be done. No phone calls, emails or work are urgent. You will eventually figure it out, so there is no point in stressing about it the whole time.
