Visiting campuses before finalising your undergraduate university can help you better understand an institution and college life. You can use this to decide if the college is appropriate for you. Make sure you dedicate enough time to see each college when scheduling your campus trip.
Here is a checklist of things you should consider doing while you are on a college campus visit:
- Get to know your campus better
See if this college is a place where you will truly enjoy it for the next 3 to 4 years. Visit the campus. Ask current students about campus and college life. Visit the freshman residences, and if you can, spend the night with a student. Check out the cafeteria, gym, library, career center, bookstore, and other campus amenities. Speak with the trainers of any sports you might be interested in. Drive or take a stroll through the neighbourhood surrounding the university. - Gather official information and forms
Learn the application requirements and determine whether the college’s course and major options suit your needs. Visit the admission office and take part in a group information session. Pick up the application materials for financial aid. Attend a lesson that appeals to you. Just take a look around the classrooms if classes aren’t in session. - Talk to people
You will be interacting with a lot of people on campus. Getting to know them beforehand is better. Meet a professor who offers a course on a topic you are interested in. Ask students what they think of their lecturers and classes. Get the names and business cards of the people you meet so you can get in touch with them if you have any questions later. - Checkout campus media
It’s critical to understand what’s going on on campus and what students are thinking. Read student publications like the school newsletter, department magazines, and literary reviews. Check out noticeboards to get a sense of what students do on a regular basis. Find out what services the career center offers by going there. Look through the school’s website and any campus blogs.
